Morphological Murmurations: Relaxed Viewing

Description

We will be hosting Relaxed Viewing sessions for Morphologocial Murmurations exhibition during which loud sounds from the audiovisual displays will be reduced and venue lighting will be increased where possible. To help us manage and limit capacity to lower than usual levels, please book any of the slots across the morning, and staff will be available to answer questions and support visitors. Exhibition sensory resources are also available next to reception for anyone to borrow and use by visitors during their visit. There is a designated quiet area built into the exhibition design away from the main installation that is intended as a relaxed space, this is accessible throughout the full duration of this exhibition. About the exhibition Morphological Murmurations is a multisensory installation engaging audiences kinaesthetically with language, embodied communication, neurodivergence, artificial intelligence (AI) and models of animal behaviour. The artwork places visitors within the space of a Large Language Model, an AI system designed to understand and analyze human language, where a flock of artificial agents respond to their movements, visually and sonically activating words. This is language, not assembled through computational logic, but through patterns of bodies working together. Through the intuition of movement, muscle memory and spatial awareness, the visitor explores the environment of a putative “other mind” (the LLM) through an alternative model of how embodied minds (birds) coordinate movement and create meaning with their bodies.
