Code for Japan Summit 2026

Description

Considering the future of public and AI togetherThe theme of this year's summit is "Public and AI." AI is no longer in the experimental stage. It is quietly yet surely integrated into our daily lives and public services that support society — in healthcare, transportation, education, and child-rearing. Nonetheless, the discussions on what kind of society we want are lagging behind. Once these systems are integrated, there is no turning back easily. That is why it is necessary to think about it now. What kind of society do we want? Who will be involved in its design? You do not have to carry such questions alone. People from different positions and specialties — government, citizens, engineers, researchers — come together to share on-site experiences and think together about the future of AI and public services. That is the Code for Japan Summit 2026.At the Code for Japan Summit, we welcome diverse players who confront social issues each year and deepen discussions with participants. In 2026, we plan to develop discussions on themes such as the essence of public services, policy-making processes, the utilization of AI in administration, and citizen collaboration in the digital age, centered around "Public and AI."Keynote SpeakerWe are inviting Professor Arisa Ema from the University of Tokyo for the keynote, who will discuss, not only on technological theories, the social design and its design process in the AI era, from the perspective of re-evaluating through dialogue with various stakeholders. After the lecture, there will be a discussion session where we will explore discussions comparing Japan's utilization of AI with international efforts in citizen dialogue.Professor Arisa Ema, Associate Professor, University of Tokyo Tokyo CollegeHer specialty is Science and Technology Studies (STS).
