Hack for Humanity: Carmen-Campeche

HACK FOR HUMANITY: AUTUMN 2026 Hack for Humanity Carmen–Campeche is an intensive one-day hackathon: you arrive in the morning, form a team, and leave in the afternoon with a functional prototype that addresses a local issue in Ciudad del Carmen and the region. The challenge is to identify a real problem in your community: mobility, the environment, health, education, public services, local economy; and demonstrate a viable solution in less than six hours, using AI as a co-pilot throughout the process: from idea exploration to code generation and preparing the pitch. Organized by the Campeche Chapter of The AI Collective in collaboration with the Universidad Autónoma del Carmen (UNACAR), following the guidelines of Hack Days by Major League Hacking (MLH), as part of The AI Collective's civic initiative Hack for Humanity. Remember that space is limited. We recommend registering as soon as possible. TEAMS Note: Limited space. Preference will be given in order of registration. PRESENTATIONS After the development time, each team will have a maximum of 5 minutes to present their prototype to the jury. Watch the time: a brief and clear pitch is worth more than a long demo that is not understood. It is not necessary for everyone to present; you can choose 1 or 2 people who are articulate. SNACKS Participants who pre-register and attend the event will be considered to receive their drink and snacks during the event. AWARDS The prizes are courtesy of MLH and the assigned sponsors. They will be announced later. First place will be awarded, with additional prizes subject to availability. Some prizes may be delivered digitally after the event (for example, codes or electronic certificates). WHAT IS GITHUB? GitHub is the platform where the world's software lives. More than a hundred million developers use it to store their code, keep a history of every change, and collaborate without stepping on each other’s work. Each project lives in a repository: a folder with superpowers that records who did what, when, and why, and allows you to go back when something breaks. For a hackathon, it is the natural tool: your team works in parallel on the same project, the repository remains as public evidence of what you built, and that link becomes part of your professional portfolio. GitHub is a sponsor of this event, and the use of GitHub and GitHub Copilot is part of the evaluation rubric. Upload your project to a repository from the start and document the process. WHAT IS GITHUB COPILOT? GitHub Copilot is the AI programming assistant integrated into GitHub and editors like Visual Studio Code. It suggests lines and complete functions while you write, explains code you do not know, proposes fixes for errors, and allows you to converse with your own project to understand or modify it. In a six-hour hackathon, it is the difference between a told idea and a demonstrated idea. Copilot is free for verified students through the GitHub Student Developer Pack.
