When Should You Use AI in Creative Work?
Description
Explore where AI genuinely supports creative work, and where it risks undermining originality,at this expert panel in London on 14 September 2026. AI is already embedded in the daily routines of journalists, marketers, newsletter writers and authors, particularly for research and preparation. Its growing role in producing finished copy, however, raises harder questions about authorship, quality and professional standards. Presented by The Media Society Events Organiser in partnership with The Conduit, this in-person discussion will examine how creative professionals can decide where to draw the line. ## What will the panel debate? The conversation will move beyond whether AI can create content to ask when it should be used. Questions include: - Should journalists use AI only for research and interview preparation, or allow it to write articles? - Can newsletter creators responsibly turn rough notes into finished posts with AI? - Should busy communications teams use AI to draft press releases and LinkedIn updates? - For authors, what separates productive brainstorming from relying on AI to write paragraphs or chapters? - How should industries create workable rules when AI-assisted content is increasingly common and difficult to detect? ## Speakers Babita Sharma chairs the panel. A presenter, broadcaster and journalist with more than 20 years’ experience across BBC World News, BBC Breakfast and BBC World Service, she has hosted the World AI Summit for five years and is also an author. She will be joined by: - Keiran Goddard, novelist, poet, screenwriter and social theorist. His novels include Hourglass and I See Buildings Fall Like Lightning, while Fill the World is due in late 2026. - Madhumita Murgia, AI Editor at the Financial Times, reporting on AI, surveillance and data privacy. Her book Code Dependent was shortlisted for the 2024 Women’s Prize for Non-Fiction. - Katie McPhee, founder of Expanded Future and AI for Good Expert in Residence at The Conduit, who helps organisations adopt AI responsibly. Her previous leadership experience includes the BBC, Eventbrite and VEED. ## Format and venue… Register for this event
