Skiller Whale recently launched the Developer Experience Community of Practice: a dedicated peer-to-peer space for leaders responsible for scaling developer talent to connect, share experiences and work through challenges together. As AI takes on more of the work involved in understanding, writing and changing software, there are bigger questions about what that means for the engineers themselves - and for the organisations relying on them. Do engineers still enjoy the work when more of their day becomes prompting, reviewing and moving rapidly between problems? Do they build enough understanding of the systems they work on to know what to do when something goes wrong? And if AI increasingly provides the route from problem to solution, how do engineers continue to develop the skills, judgement and experience they need to get better at their jobs? This lunch is an opportunity to compare what we're seeing in practice, explore where the risks are real, and discuss what leaders responsible for engineering capability should be thinking about now.
