Synthetic Ruins: Recurrence

Works and Projects at Archway is pleased to present Synthetic Ruins: Recurrence, a solo exhibition by London-based artist HSU JING, featuring a new body of paintings and sculptures exploring the shifting relationship between technology, history, and human perception. Drawing from artificial intelligence, classical mythology, and the visual language of warfare, Hsu creates works that exist between familiarity and distortion. Bronze sculptures emerge from AI-generated forms before being transformed through traditional casting, while paintings recreate the visual “errors” of machine-generated images by hand. Throughout the exhibition, history appears not as a fixed record, but as something continuously reconstructed, repeated, and reimagined. Rather than presenting technology as a subject in itself, Synthetic Ruins: Recurrence asks how technological systems reshape the way we remember, interpret, and imagine the world around us. The exhibition invites visitors to consider what remains of authenticity when images, myths, and memories are increasingly produced through synthetic processes. Presented across paintings, sculptures, and kinetic installation, the exhibition offers a contemplative journey through cycles of recurrence, where the boundaries between the human and the artificial, the historical and the speculative, begin to dissolve.
