Side Quest 002: Singapore
Description
As velocity in building and shipping new apps continues to pick up, the ease of building something ridiculous and fun on the side while still keeping your day job is becoming a lot easier than before. In fact, most design recruiters don't even look at your resume or your portfolio anymore, all they care about is what's in your "play" section or your side projects department. Ultimately, the role of a designer has evolved beyond just pixel pushing, and into one of a creator-as-a-whole. Some say this is a result of roles merging, where the line between engineer and designer is blurring and thus emerging the title of Design Engineer (thanks Notion!). But we don't think so. We think that this is merely a return to form. Designers have always been creators, sculptors, builders, and even engineers. It was precisely because of the tech boom that led to designers being split into UI/UX, brand, product, etc etc, managed by product designers, passing work to engineers to implement, when in reality the designer has always been just a creator. Side Quest is a celebration of this return. An invitation to come share your own creations. This is not a hackathon, not a pitching session, not a networking event. It is a space for creatives to share things they've been tinkering on the side, small little side quests one might call them. Built a weather app on Claude for fun? Come share and demo it! Threw together a whole new redesign of SMRT's website? I mean okay very impressive, but yes share it with us! This is an evening of chill discussions and vibe-maxxing. Bring your most unpretentious self and leave your networking at the door, and come listen to what others have made. What will the event look like? Doors open at 7pm, first demo kicks off at 7:30pm. Food and non-alcoholic beverages will be provided so come with an open mind and an open belly. If you're demoing a side project: Who should come? Designers! Tinkerers! If you're a creative who is looking for a side quest of your own, come hang out!
