WA's privacy framework has changed. What does that mean for your AI projects and everyday handling of personal information? The Privacy and Responsible Information Sharing Act 2024 (WA) introduces new privacy obligations for WA public sector entities and contracted service providers. This practical half-day orientation explains the framework in plain English and explores how it can affect AI use, information handling, and everyday workplace decisions. You will work through practical information flows, AI-related scenarios, and readiness activities to identify where your role may need clearer processes or safeguards. Who this is for This session is designed for: • WA state government officers • Local government officers • Contracted service providers handling personal information • Professionals involved in privacy, data, governance, or AI integration No previous PRIS Act or AI experience is required. What we will do together • Understand the framework: Explore the PRIS Act, the WA Office of the Information Commissioner, key commencement dates, and who the obligations apply to. • Connect privacy principles to AI: Follow the information lifecycle from collection to deletion and identify where AI use may create privacy considerations. • Work through information flows: Review realistic scenarios and distinguish between safer and higher-risk ways of handling information with AI. • Apply the learning to your role: Consider where your current processes may need stronger controls, review points, or documentation. • Build a readiness action list: Turn the session into practical, dated actions for your role or team.
