Bruno Aybar - Senior Engineer @ ShopifyAI is transforming the way we build software. Teams deliver features faster, automate repetitive tasks, and reduce the time spent writing code. But what happens to the knowledge that was previously acquired during that process? As AI integrates into the development flow, people begin to accept changes with less questioning, architectural knowledge becomes increasingly diffuse, and understanding of the system stops growing at the same pace as the code. Even with rigorous code reviews, collective understanding of how the system evolves can quietly deteriorate.In this talk, we will explore the involution of technical capabilities and the shared understanding of teams that begin to adopt AI on a large scale. We will identify its early signs and what concrete practices can be incorporated into daily routines to preserve critical thinking, strengthen architectural knowledge, and ensure that the speed AI brings does not result in a loss of technical judgment.
