Media Party Barcelona 2026 Hackathon, Powered by Cloudflare

Build open-source AI tools for journalism and information integrity at Media Party’s one-day hackathon in Barcelona on 9 September 2026. Presented by Media Party in partnership with Cloudflare, this intensive, in-person sprint will bring together approximately 100–120 selected builders at BIT Habitat (Edificio Ca l’Alier) in Poblenou. Developers, journalists, data scientists and designers will form multidisciplinary teams, turn ideas into functional prototypes, and pitch and demo their work by the end of the day. ## Building for an AI-shaped internet The hackathon focuses on the practical challenges facing publishers and creators as generative AI, automated systems and agentic platforms reshape how information is produced, discovered and trusted. Teams will develop open-source projects across three core areas: - Workflow automation and agentic journalism: AI-driven agents and workflows that streamline media production and support newsroom teams. - The post-search publisher economy: tools designed to help publishers and creators build sustainable businesses as audiences increasingly encounter content through AI-powered platforms. - Information integrity and verification: technical approaches to synthetic-content detection, content authenticity and digital safety. Cloudflare will provide infrastructure and AI developer tooling, as well as a dedicated challenge track with special prizes connected to its developer ecosystem and AI platform. Small grant prizes will also be awarded. ## A hands-on, team-based format Running from 1pm to 8pm on Wednesday 9 September 2026, the seven-hour event is centred on making rather than passive listening. Participants will collaborate in teams, build working tools, and present their results before the day closes. It is particularly relevant to software engineers and data scientists who want to apply their skills to media challenges, as well as journalists and designers interested in prototyping new forms of news production and verification.… Register for this event
