On September 3rd, we will be in Pflach - at the Innovation Center Reutte.The building has been here since June 30, 2000. In the first ten years, over 55 companies and institutions used it as a springboard. Today, among others, the REA, the Regional Development Außerfern, is located here.What few people know: The building was originally planned as a Fraunhofer site for Virtual Reality. The first Fraunhofer employee was already on-site in the early 2000s, then a change of plan occurred. VR back then, AI today - future technology appears to be part of this building's DNA.How it happenedFabian Jenewein and I met in November 2025 at SPOT ON. Exactly the week KINN started with four people. He has his office in the Innovation Center. At some point, the question arose why this didn’t exist in Außerfern.Now it does exist in Außerfern.Why Außerfern and AI go togetherNext door is the Plansee Group. World market leader in refractory metals, with over a hundred years of history. Their molybdenum and tungsten are used in semiconductor manufacturing - without them, there would be no AI chips.And the data centers that everyone talks about need energy. With hydropower and the Reutte electricity works, Außerfern has exactly the energy history that is often told in Innsbruck in Tyrol.In short: The building blocks for AI come from here.
