Inside China’s Innovation Engine: Zhangjiang x Munich

Zhangjiang Science City meets Germany’s Technology & Innovation Ecosystem. One of China’s largest science and technology ecosystems is coming to Munich. Established in 1992, Zhangjiang has grown into one of China’s most influential science and technology ecosystems. Today, the 220 km² Zhangjiang Science City brings together more than 22,000 companies, 500,000 professionals, 180 national and municipal R&D institutes and 70 regional headquarters of multinational companies. Its core industries span Integrated Circuits, Artificial Intelligence, Life Sciences, Advanced Manufacturing and Deep Tech. Its global relevance goes far beyond scale: six of the world’s top ten chip designers and seven of the world’s top ten pharmaceutical companies operate regional headquarters or R&D centres in Zhangjiang. The ecosystem connects research facilities and the Shanghai Supercomputer Center with international technology leaders such as SMIC, Hua Hong Semiconductor, Roche, Novartis, MicroPort, AMD, NVIDIA and Honeywell. German industry has been part of Zhangjiang’s international development for decades, creating a natural bridge between Shanghai’s technology ecosystem and Germany’s industrial base. On 8 September, we are bringing this ecosystem directly to Munich. The morning is designed around direct exchange rather than traditional conference presentations. Representatives from Zhangjiang Group, German technology and industry leaders, German Mittelstand and selected Deep Tech founders will come together to discuss where Germany and China can create tangible opportunities in AI, industrial innovation, market access and cross-border growth.
