Get to Know the Porto Databricks User Group
Description
š Join us for the very first event of the Porto Databricks User Group, taking place during Porto AI Week! The Porto Databricks User Group brings together Data & AI professionals and enthusiasts from across the greater Porto region, including Porto, Aveiro and Braga. It is a place to connect, exchange ideas and learn from real-world experiences. š¤ For our first event, co-organizers Claudia Sulsters and Rui Carvalho will introduce the community and share their perspectives on Data, AI and Databricks through two inspiring talks. š Whether you're a data engineer, AI engineer, analyst, data scientist, architect, or simply curious about Databricks and the latest developments in Data & AI, you're very welcome to join us. š Program ⨠Come meet the community and help us kick off the Porto Databricks User Group! More details about the talks: Tech talk by Rui - From Data Engineer to AI Data Engineer: What changes when your data consumer is an AI model Most of us learned to build data products for dashboards, analysts and BI tools. Now, something else is reading our output: an AI model. And it fails differently. A broken BI pipeline shows a wrong number and someone notices. A broken retrieval pipeline gives a confident, well-written, wrong answer that nobody notices.I recently built a document pipeline on Databricks, and I came out of it convinced that most of the work was not AI work at all. We'll start with why unstructured data matters, then we'll understand what context engineering actually means, what RAG is doing underneath and then the four steps you own as a Data Engineer. Getting text out of a document, splitting it up, turning it into something searchable and keeping that searchable thing fresh. Case Talk by Claudia - Building the foundation for AIEvery organization wants to do more with AI. But is your organization actually ready for it? AI readiness requires more than a modern data platform. It requires an organization that knows who owns the data, what it means, whether it can be trusted, and how it can be used. In this talk, we share how GVB (Amsterdamās public transport operator) is building this foundation with Databricks and data mesh. We will cover why the foundation needed to change, how Databricks supports GVBās data & AI ambitions, and the challenges and lessons learned along the way.
