Data Thursday: Real-Time F1 Analytics & Agentic Engineering

24 Sep 20266:00 PM - 9:30 PM GMT+00:00Amsterdam, NetherlandsOpen

Description

Explore real-time Formula 1 analytics and AI-assisted engineering at Data Thursday, a hybrid meetup in Amsterdam on 24 September 2026. Data Tribes brings the data community together for an evening focused on F1 Unleashed, Nelson Sousa’s personal project for streaming, downloading, visualising and analysing Formula 1 data while a race is still unfolding. Rather than explaining results the following day, the application aims to surface insights when they can still matter. Real-time data meets agentic engineering Nelson will demonstrate how F1 Unleashed works with live timing screens, weather information and telemetry to produce near-real-time race analysis, predictions, strategic insights and tactical opportunities. The session will examine what “real time” actually means in Formula 1, including the challenge of reducing latency from one hour to five minutes, then five seconds and ultimately under one second. The talk also explores the relationship between predictive models and the data pipelines supplying them: even a strong model can only respond as quickly and reliably as its underlying data flow allows. A second major theme is AI-assisted software development. Nelson used Claude Code as an implementation agent while retaining control of domain reasoning, system architecture and validation. Expect a candid account of the possibilities, practical lessons and limitations of agentic engineering, not simply what the AI wrote, but how the human expert determined what the application needed to understand. Key topics include: Live Formula 1 timing, weather and telemetry data Streaming data pipelines and sub-second latency Predictive modelling, race analysis and strategy insights Human oversight of AI coding agents Architecture, validation and the limits of agent-led implementation Who should attend? This meetup is relevant to Formula 1 fans as well as data engineers, analysts, developers and technology professionals interested in streaming data, predictive modelling, real-time analytics or AI-assisted software engineering. The combination of a domain-led case study and honest engineering insights should also appeal to builders exploring how coding agents can contribute to real applications without replacing expert judgement.
