CONVERSATIONS 2026 brings chatbot and human-centred AI researchers to the University of Amsterdam from 23–25 November for its 10th scientific symposium. Taking place in [Amsterdam](https://www.createwith.com/cities/amsterdam), this international event offers researchers and practitioners a multidisciplinary forum for presenting findings, exchanging knowledge and examining the future of human-centred artificial intelligence. The programme will explore how conversational systems and generative AI can be designed, studied and deployed around human needs. ## Research themes The symposium focuses on several closely connected areas: - Chatbot research and design - Human–AI interaction and collaboration - Human–AI decision-making - Trustworthy AI - Human-centred research into generative AI and large language models The event is particularly relevant to academics, PhD candidates, early-stage researchers and industry practitioners working in conversational AI, interaction design or adjacent disciplines. As a scientific symposium, it centres on research exchange, paper presentations and informed discussion rather than introductory training. ## A milestone edition and doctoral consortium CONVERSATIONS 2026 marks the **10th edition** of the symposium. A doctoral consortium will precede the main programme, giving PhD students and early-stage researchers a dedicated setting in which to present ongoing or planned work, receive feedback and build connections across the wider research community. The [call for papers](https://2026.conversations.ws/call-for-papers/) welcomes: - **Full papers** covering empirical studies, theory, design research or innovative implementations - **Short papers** sharing preliminary findings or implementations with strong research potential - **Position papers and project presentations** addressing work in progress, active projects or open questions - **Doctoral consortium extended abstracts** from PhD students and early-stage researchers The firm submission deadline is **5 September 2026**, followed by author notifications on **10 October** and revised papers on **25 October**.
