Talk 1: Contributing to Open Source With AI, Responsibly About the speaker - Jess Lowe Jess is a Software Engineer on Google's Open Source Security team, based in Sydney, where her work centres on high-stakes projects like OSV (Open Source Vulnerabilities). She's a regular voice in the open source security world - speaking at events on topics like dependency security myths and vulnerability management, and active in the OpenSSF community. Ever thought about using AI to help you contribute to open source, but worried about being a burden on maintainers? This is the talk for you. We've all seen the headlines: AI is making us 10x faster. But if you look at the inbox of an open-source maintainer, it tells a different story. While AI has made it easier to contribute, it's also led to a massive flood of "AI slop" - pull requests that look fine at a glance but are actually just more work for the people running the project. In this talk, Jess Lowe (Software Engineer on the Google Open Source Security team) pulls back the curtain on what it's actually like to maintain high-stakes projects like OSV (Open Source Vulnerabilities) in the age of LLMs. Join us for a deep dive into how to be the kind of contributor that maintainers actually trust. Talk 2: Building with Antigravity About the speaker - Brett Morgan Brett is a Developer Relations Engineer at Google, where he builds samples, codelabs, documentation, and other fun things to help developers make the most of Google's latest AI and app development tooling. Off the clock, his interests run from mastering sous vide cooking to tinkering with embedded programming. Got 45 minutes and an idea? In this talk, Brett Morgan builds the same small web app - one that wires a few Gemini API calls into a simple front end - two different ways, live on stage. He'll start in AI Studio, talking through what's happening as the app takes shape. Then he'll switch over to Antigravity in a fresh directory and run the same app-creation prompt - but this time with /grill-me, working through the clarifying questions with input from the audience. It turns out both experiences are powered by the same underlying technology - Gemini 3.5 Flash and Antigravity - so Brett will keep switching back and forth between the two, digging into skills along the way (starting with Matt Pocock's /teach skill, then layering in skills suited to the tech stack in use), before pulling in MCP via the Chrome MCP Server. The app itself isn't really the point - it could be almost anything. This talk is really about the different processes you can use with these tools, and the very different experiences those processes create: vibe coding vs. agentic engineering.
