Build with Gemma Hackathon — GDG on Campus UoN
Description
The next generation of open models is here. Welcome to the Build with Gemma Hackathon, a high-intensity, 1-day physical innovation sprint hosted by GDG on Campus UoN in partnership with GoMyCode Kenya. We are bringing Nairobi's sharpest student developers and bootcamp builders together to build functional AI prototypes leveraging Google DeepMind's newly released Gemma 4 models. This is not about writing production-ready enterprise code; it is about experimenting, breaking boundaries, and solving real-world local bottlenecks. 🎯 THE CHALLENGE Nairobi’s small businesses, transit networks, and civic structures manage massive amounts of unorganized, fast-moving information daily. Your mission is to leverage Gemma 4 to build a functional prototype—whether it is an active autonomous agent, a multimodal vision parser, or a localized mobile/web application—that solves a practical bottleneck. 🗺️ HACKATHON TRACKS You will submit your final project via a Kaggle Writeup under one of three tracks: 1. The Small Business & FinTech Track: Automating financial, inventory, or resource workflows for local merchants and informal markets. 2. The Multimodal Infrastructure Track: Utilizing Gemma 4's vision capabilities to parse, map, or translate real-world physical data (e.g., traffic patterns, signage, utility bills). 3. The Civic Engagement & Accessibility Track: Building agents or tools to streamline public information and local community resources. 💰 PRIZES (TOTAL POOL: $2,000 USD) Prizes will be awarded to the top winners and runners-up across our tracks, fully managed and distributed via Payoneer. (Note: Winners under 18 will require a signed parental consent form to claim rewards). ⚠️ IMPORTANT REGISTRATION NOTE To maintain a high-quality building environment, physical seats at the GoMyCode Westlands campus are strictly limited to 80 participants. RSVPing on this Bevy page DOES NOT guarantee a seat. You must apply through our screening form here: https://forms.gle/aXoc4UXGxZaRJidc9 Accepted applicants will receive an official confirmation email containing the private Kaggle platform invitation link.
