Artificial Intelligence Society Welcome Event

Meet the University of Glasgow’s Artificial Intelligence Society online on 18 September 2026 for an accessible introduction to its community and activities. ## Explore AI’s biggest questions Artificial intelligence is developing rapidly, raising important questions about power, safety and the future of human decision-making. This welcome event creates a relaxed space for University of Glasgow students to begin discussing those issues while discovering what the AI Society offers. Running from 5:30pm to 7pm on Friday 18 September 2026, the session will take place online through Google Meet. You do not need a Google account to attend, and the drop-in format means you can arrive at any point during the event. Current members will introduce the society, explain the activities it runs throughout the year and share how students can get involved. It is also an opportunity to meet people with a common interest in AI and take part in an open conversation about how the technology may affect individuals, institutions and society. ## Who is it for? The event is open to University of Glasgow students, including complete beginners. No previous knowledge or experience of artificial intelligence is required. It should suit you if you: - already follow developments in AI and want to meet others who share that interest; - are curious about AI safety, power or human decision-making; - want to learn what the society organises during the academic year; - are simply exploring student groups and would like an informal introduction. There is no pressure to become a member after attending. The society welcomes students who already know they are interested as well as those who are only beginning to explore the subject. ## Practical information Attendance is free, and no ticket is required. The online format offers a straightforward way to meet the group without travelling to campus, while the friendly introductory structure is designed to make it easy for newcomers to participate.
