Description

The AI Hackathon for People with Disabilities culminates in [Riyadh](https://www.createwith.com/cities/riyadh) on 11–13 October 2026, advancing practical AI-powered assistive technologies. Organised by the **King Salman Center for Disability Research** as part of the 7th International Conference on Disability and Rehabilitation, this multi-stage programme challenges participants to create smart, sustainable solutions that improve accessibility, independence and quality of life for people with disabilities. It also coincides with Saudi Arabia’s designation of 2026 as the Year of Artificial Intelligence. ## Four challenge tracks Teams will develop projects across four areas where AI could make a measurable difference: - **Everyday life and assistive technologies** - **Health and rehabilitation** - **Education and access to knowledge** - **Hajj and Umrah services** The hackathon is designed for experts, researchers, innovators, developers and entrepreneurs from Saudi Arabia and abroad. Both individuals and representatives of companies or organisations can participate, while a dedicated award recognises winning participants with disabilities. ## From early idea to working prototype This is more than a three-day coding competition. Participants first take part in workshops and idea-development sessions covering robotics and rehabilitation, adaptive learning, AI-driven universal design and educational technologies. Qualified teams then move into an acceleration and intensive training phase running from 1 July to 1 September. Throughout the programme, teams receive **scientific and technical mentorship**, technical guidance and support to turn promising concepts into viable solutions. Funding opportunities and partnerships are also available to help strong projects progress beyond the hackathon and achieve longer-term impact. Finalists must submit a prototype, demo video, presentation deck and impact report by 15 September. Shortlisted projects will then be evaluated during the concluding event in Riyadh from 11–13 October, with winners announced at the conference. ## Prize fund A total of **SR220,000 ($59,000)** is available: - Individuals: SR45,000 for first place and SR30,000 for second - Companies and organisations: SR75,000 for first place and SR50,000 for second - Special award for winning participants with disabilities: SR20,000… [Register for this event](https://www.arabnews.com/node/2647545/saudi-arabia)
