AI Engineering Benchmarks: What Good Actually Looks Like

20 Aug 20266:00 PM - 9:00 PM GMT+00:00London, United KingdomOpen

Description

See what strong AI-enabled engineering looks like, and how to measure it,at this curated London evening for senior engineers and technology leaders. Taking place on Thursday 20 August 2026, from 6:00–9:00 PM, this in-person London event tackles a pressing question: how should organisations assess, develop and hire engineers when AI is changing the role faster than many teams can adapt? Rather than offering abstract predictions, the evening brings together practitioners and leaders from Andela, GitHub and the wider TechTalk UK community to examine engineering benchmarks, AI readiness and measurable productivity. Expect candid talks, practical perspectives from teams working at scale, a panel discussion and plenty of time for detailed peer conversations. ## Talks and discussion Nicola Lyons, Senior Director of Talent Operations at Andela, will present Mind the Gap: Assessment and Upskilling in a World of AI Autocomplete. The session explores why continual assessment, training and upskilling matter as engineers adopt AI-assisted tools, and how organisations can help their teams use those tools effectively. Brent Beer, Director of Global Partner Technical Excellence at GitHub, will present Optimise GitHub Copilot Token Costs. He will address cost, usage and engineering impact, including how teams can control wasted AI tooling spend and translate AI-assisted development into measurable productivity gains. A subsequent practitioner panel will explore: - How the definition of “good engineering” is changing - Frameworks for assessing teams against current market demands - What organisations often get wrong about AI adoption - How structured assessment and training can support development The floor will also be opened for questions and discussion. The remaining panel line-up is still to be announced. ## Format and audience The event begins with food, drinks and relaxed networking, followed by two focused talks, a panel discussion and an hour of open networking. The final session offers space for Q&A with panellists and smaller conversations about engineering roles, team development and career paths. Attendees will also receive post-event highlights, resources and suggested next steps.… Register for this event
