AI Architecture Kata: Cambridge Tech Week Special

Practise AI-assisted software architecture in a hands-on group kata at The Bradfield Centre in Cambridge on 15 September 2026. This Cambridge Tech Week special offers a safe, collaborative setting in which to sharpen architectural thinking, explore trade-offs and learn how other practitioners approach the same business problem. Hosted by Natalie G. and Isaac O. for Software Crafters Cambridge, the session runs from 6:30pm to 9:00pm BST at The Bradfield Centre, 184 Cambridge Science Park Road. How the architecture kata works Rather than listening to a conventional talk, you will actively practise designing a software system. Participants will split into groups and receive a business problem that calls for a technical architecture. Each team will need to: Examine the problem context and identify key requirements Question a Product Owner to clarify uncertainties Make and justify architectural and technology choices Balance the kinds of constraints and trade-offs encountered in real projects Use AI as part of the architecture-design process Present its proposed architecture to the wider room The team showcases will lead into a group discussion, creating an opportunity to compare solutions, share insights and discuss software architecture best practices. Paper, pens and sticky notes will be supplied to support the activity. Each group will also receive access to one laptop for using AI. If you have an AI subscription that you are happy to use during the exercise, the organisers ask that you bring your laptop. Who should attend? The kata is open to experienced coders, software architects, AI engineers and people who are new to the field. You do not need previous architecture knowledge or attendance at an earlier session. The format is designed to make architectural practice repeatable and approachable, giving participants more opportunities to exercise design skills than they might encounter in their day-to-day roles.… Register for this event
