AI Agents from Scratch: A Beginner's LLM Workshop

Build a working AI agent from scratch online on 5 September 2026, using RAG, MCP, Python and LangGraph in a practical beginner-focused workshop. This hands-on session is designed to move beyond AI agent theory and help you assemble the core components of a modern LLM application. In one focused workshop, you’ll create an agent that can retrieve information from your own data, call external tools through the Model Context Protocol (MCP), and coordinate multi-step reasoning with LangGraph. ## What you’ll build Working through the process with the instructor, you’ll create: - A retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) pipeline grounded in your own documents - An MCP server written in Python, using fewer than 20 lines of code - A stateful LangGraph agent that connects retrieval, tool use and multi-step reasoning - A working project that you can leave with on your GitHub The workshop presents MCP as a universal standard adopted by Anthropic, OpenAI and Google, placing it alongside RAG and LangGraph as part of the current AI agent development stack. The emphasis is on building and shipping rather than reviewing outdated tutorials or spending the session on abstract theory. ## Who should attend? The event is aimed at developers, founders and technical leaders who want practical experience creating AI agents. It is positioned as a beginner’s LLM workshop, but participants should be comfortable working on a laptop and able to use a local Python environment. Bring a laptop with Python 3.10 or later installed. An API key will be provided, removing one common barrier to following the practical exercises. ## Speaker and format Dr Yasin Ceran will lead the workshop. He is an associate professor at KAIST in South Korea and also teaches at San Jose State University.
