In May, Mason County gave final approval to rezone 28 properties — roughly 2,080 acres, more than three square miles of farm and residential land — for a hyperscale data center campus west of Maysville, near Germantown Road and the AA Highway. The contemplated load is around 2.2 gigawatts. That is an extraordinary amount of power to drop on a rural county of about 17,000 people. And here is what Mason County still has not been told: who is building it. Officials and landowners signed non-disclosure agreements. The rezoning application was filed by the county's own industrial authority, not by the company. To this day the end user has only ever been described as a Fortune 50 technology company. In the county's own documents, it is called "the prospect." Three square miles of Kentucky farmland rezoned for a tenant this community has never been allowed to meet. A community cannot weigh a deal it is not permitted to see. That is not local control. That is not self-government. That is not transparency. Neighbors keep making a plain point: Mason County already has land zoned for industry. So why convert thousands of acres of farms and homes instead? And the company has still not committed to build. 𝐏𝐑𝐎𝐓𝐄𝐂𝐓 𝐑𝐀𝐓𝐄𝐏𝐀𝐘𝐄𝐑𝐒:Families and small businesses shouldn't be forced to shoulder the costs of Big Tech's enormous power demands. 𝐒𝐓𝐎𝐏 𝐌𝐀𝐒𝐒 𝐒𝐔𝐑𝐕𝐄𝐈𝐋𝐋𝐀𝐍𝐂𝐄:Americans should not be tracked everywhere they go by Flock cameras and other AI-powered surveillance systems without transparency, accountability and local control. This isn't about being anti-data center, anti-AI, or even anti-technology… It's about making sure the AI revolution doesn't come at the expense of American families, farmers, workers, taxpayers and communities.
