OpenAI is planning a 1400 Acre, $20 billion campus for Effingham County. Negotiations have been done privately. NDAs signed. Residents sidelined. Meanwhile, concerns mount over the noise, the cost of the electricity and the local impacts. OpenAI claims the benefits will be enormous, and the impacts minimal. But how can we trust them when they won’t listen to residents' concerns? What will the water impacts really be? How will electricity prices really be impacted? This is about more than just whether the claimed impacts are good. It's about whether OpenAI can be trusted to deliver the benefits promised, and not impact our communities in a negative way. It's about why one of the largest companies in the world gets tax abatements while regular Americans struggle. The people who live here should have a meaningful say in the future of their community. Big Tech is racing to build massive data centers across America…often before the people who live in these communities understand what is coming or have a meaningful say in the decisions. 𝐋𝐎𝐂𝐀𝐋 𝐂𝐎𝐍𝐓𝐑𝐎𝐋:Communities deserve a voice in what gets built in their own backyards. 𝐏𝐑𝐎𝐓𝐄𝐂𝐓 𝐑𝐀𝐓𝐄𝐏𝐀𝐘𝐄𝐑𝐒:Families and small businesses shouldn’t be forced to shoulder the costs of Big Tech’s enormous power demands. 𝐒𝐓𝐎𝐏 𝐌𝐀𝐒𝐒 𝐒𝐔𝐑𝐕𝐄𝐈𝐋𝐋𝐀𝐍𝐂𝐄:Americans should not be tracked everywhere they go by Flock cameras and other AI-powered surveillance systems without transparency, accountability and local control. This isn’t about being anti-data center, anti-AI, or even anti-technology… It’s about making sure the AI revolution doesn’t come at the expense of American families, farmers, workers, taxpayers and communities.
