The founding chapter of ISSA invites you to network with friends and colleagues, make new friends, and hear from two great speakers. Enjoy a delicious dinner and drinks.Topic One: Runtime is where AI livesArtificial intelligence introduces new attack surfaces, new machine identities, and new autonomous actors into modern environments. But the bigger story might not be the AI itself. As attackers increasingly operate across identities, applications, APIs, infrastructure, and data, traditional security boundaries start to blur. This session will explore why many of these interactions ultimately converge at runtime, why layer 7 has become a critical source of security signals, and why runtime is emerging as the control plane for modern security. Attendees will leave with a practical framework for understanding AI-driven risks, runtime visibility, and the architectural changes shaping the next generation of security platforms.Speaker One: Teddi PoehlsTeddi Poehls is the head of sales engineering at Impart Security and has spent over a decade helping organizations solve complex challenges in application, API, and layer 7 security. Her background includes security operations in large enterprise environments and extensive experience working with security leaders across various industries as they navigate significant technological changes, including cloud, APIs, and now artificial intelligence.Teddi is particularly interested in how AI is reshaping the security operations model and how protecting runtime visibility, context, and control can be delivered in modern application environments.Topic Two: Polling Security Tools and ThreatsThis session offers a practical look from Los Angeles County, one of the largest and most monitored election jurisdictions in the United States, examining how new technologies and traditional communication channels reshape both sides of the security equation. On the defensive side: how security and communication teams are operationalizing AI to triage threats, accelerate threat intelligence, and expand capabilities against a resource backdrop that has become increasingly constrained by diminishing federal support. On the offensive side: how state actors and sophisticated criminal groups leverage AI-assisted attacks and generative misinformation to undermine the one good that cannot be fully protected by any technical control: public trust.Attendees will leave with a concrete understanding of how election-specific security constraints – immutable deadlines, radical transparency requirements, and trust as a measurable security goal – translate into lessons for any security program. In an environment where the margin for error is minimal and the threat landscape includes both complex persistent threats and ideologically motivated narrative attacks, election security professionals must embrace the latest technologies while also strengthening the fundamentals that anchor any strong security program.Speaker Two: Jeremy KellerJeremy Keller is an information security officer at the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk, where he leads and supports cybersecurity initiatives focused on protecting critical election infrastructure and strengthening public trust in democratic systems.Jeremy has extensive experience in developing enterprise security programs, conducting risk assessments, and aligning cybersecurity strategy with operational and regulatory requirements within Los Angeles County departments. He has served as an information security officer for the personnel department and in a senior security role at the health department during the COVID pandemic. He also led the statewide cybersecurity incident response working group from 2021 to 2024.Jeremy is a two-time recipient of a cybersecurity award from the National Association of Counties, recognizing innovation and leadership in public sector cybersecurity.Thank you to our sponsor Impart SecurityRefunds & SubstitutionsAs ISSA Los Angeles makes commitments to our venues well in advance, we regret that we cannot offer refunds or credits within 72 hours of our events.CPE Credits2 CPE credits will be issued for this meeting.Event Disclaimer & Intellectual PropertyISSA-Los Angeles reserves the right to modify or cancel items from the program due to unforeseen circumstances.
