Roundtable #2 — Quantum Computing & AI First use cases, honestly assessed — among peers, without vendor filter. Quantum computing is at a different point for Austrian companies compared to quantum-safe cryptography: Instead of migration pressure, it’s about which computational problems are even candidates — and when the effort pays off. First corporates have tested exactly that: solving optimization and simulation problems on quantum hardware, benchmarked against classical methods, combined with machine-learning approaches. The results are revealing, even where they are sobering. Additionally, there’s the connection to AI, which runs in both directions and primarily operates today in one: AI methods improve the calibration, error correction, and control of quantum systems. The reverse benefit for productive AI workloads remains open for now. Those who keep a clear distinction here save themselves from expensive misjudgments. The roundtable brings both perspectives together: an expert impulse on the current state of hardware, algorithms, and realistic time horizons, followed by lessons learned from companies that have already set up initial projects — what was tested, what was measured, what it cost. The University of Innsbruck and IQOQI have been among the world leaders in quantum physics for decades, and from this environment, two of the most relevant European quantum computing companies, AQT and ParityQC, have emerged. Spending two days here means meeting people for whom otherwise several trips would be necessary. Two days, three formats The roundtable takes place as part of a two-day Innsbruck quantum program. Participation in the roundtable is possible independently of the other formats: Those who want to attend only in the afternoon can check in at 12:30 and finish by 16:00. For those who want to gain more: On the morning of the first day, the Quantum Austria Closing Forum will take place, and in the evening, we will bring the communities together: panel discussion in fish-bowl format at the University of Innsbruck, with industry representatives and input directly from the roundtable, followed by a reception at the Technikstraße campus. Day two belongs to the Quantum Innovation Forum. Especially for participants traveling for the roundtable, the evening or the second day is worthwhile — the opportunity to meet so many relevant people in one place is rare otherwise.
