OpenAI Build Week Community Hackathon - Taipei

Welcome to the OpenAI Build Week Community Hackathon - Taipei. This is an all-day, hands-on sprint for builders, inviting engineers, designers, founders, students, product specialists, open-source collaborators, and creators interested in AI from Taiwan to work together. The goal is simple: to create something functional with Codex. OpenAI Build Week connects builders from around the world, using Codex and the OpenAI developer platform to prototype, enhance existing projects, and develop software products to a state ready for demonstration, testing, and sharing. In Taipei, we will spend the day transforming ideas into working demos, exploring coding agent flows, and sharing results with the local community. You can start from scratch, extend an existing project, create developer tools, build AI-native products, experiment with agents, or enhance existing workflows. Prior experience with Codex is not required, but you should be familiar with software development and bring your own laptop. Team Formation and Registration Each team must consist of 2 to 4 members. Each member must register individually and enter the same team name as their colleagues to ensure proper organization of team registration data. A maximum of 30 teams will be accepted. Full four-member teams will be prioritized for admissions, so registering as a complete four-member team provides the best chance of securing a spot. Please confirm with your colleagues before registering and use a consistent team name. Codex Credits Participants who check in at the event will receive $100 in Codex credits. Hackathon Prizes 1st place - $5000 in OpenAI API credits 2nd place - $2500 in OpenAI API credits 3rd place - $1000 in OpenAI API credits What to Build Agentic Coding Create tools or workflows using Codex as an AI coding agent. AI-Native Products Develop practical products that place AI at the heart of user experiences. Developer Tools Build tools that help users debug, test, document, deploy, or deliver faster. Domain Agents Create agents tailored to education, productivity, business, civic technology, health, accessibility, media, or local scenarios in Taiwan. Evals & Reliability Develop tools that facilitate testing, assessing, monitoring, or improving AI systems. Open Topic Bring your own ideas to create something practical. We are looking for: - A clear user or workflow - A working demo, not just a concept - Thoughtful use of Codex or OpenAI tools - Delivering value to real users - A responsible and inclusive AI project - Direction for further development post-hackathon Schedule 10:00 - Registration, light snacks, and preparations 10:30 - Welcome and overview of OpenAI Build Week 11:00 - Codex Workshop 11:45 - Team confirmation and project definition 12:00 - Light lunch and start of the sprint 15:00 - Video submission deadline (1 minute) 15:45 - Announcement of finalists 16:00 - Finalist presentations, 2 minutes per team 17:00 - Awards ceremony 17:15 - Networking 18:00 - Event conclusion Presentations & Global Build Week At the end of the event, briefly invited teams will present short demos of their builds. Teams should aim to showcase a working prototype, a clear workflow, or significant technical progress. We will also share how to continue building after the event and participate in the wider global Build Week challenge. Food and Drinks Light snacks, a light lunch, and drinks will be provided. Please bring your laptop, charger, and any tools or accounts you need for a smooth building experience. Community This is a community-led OpenAI Build Week event for local builders in Taiwan.
