Demystifying AI in Architectural Design

Architecture and Design Scotland (A&DS) is hosting an event exploring the applications of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) across the architecture and design professions. We know there is transformative potential, but what are its benefits and limitations? To what extent will AI reshape design, the role of designer, work processes, and the job market? What are the implications around intellectual property, authorship and accountability, and broader environmental, social and ethical impacts?  We will hear from academics at the UCL Bartlett Faculty of the Built Environment, led by Dr Juliana Martins, with Bahar Durmaz-Drinkwater, and practitioners at Arup, about the emerging landscape of AI tools in architectural and urban design practice, and how they are being adopted and integrated into professional workflows. Their insights will shape a wider conversation about how AI can help to innovate and enhance productivity for smaller and medium practices in Scotland.  A panel discussion featuring Graham Ross of Austin-Smith:Lord and other contributors will examine the opportunities and challenges of AI within a Scottish context.  About A&DS:SpACE  This event is taking place in the A&DS:SpACE, as part of a wider programme of events.  A&DS:SpACE is a collaborative venue by Architecture and Design Scotland and Space for Architecture, Carbon & Environment, hosting events and exhibitions about all aspects of the built environment.
