Descrição

Save the date! Join us for an evening of gathering around deep questions on the ethics of AI, its implementation, use, and diffusion: what it means for work and society at large. Gradient Gathering brings together researchers, practitioners, policymakers, and others on the ethics, safety and governance of AI. We’ll share more on the programme and speakers soon. Our first speaker: Rev. Fr. & Prof. Paolo Benanti.A Franciscan friar and theologian, Benanti is Professor at the Pontifical Gregorian University and Associate Professor of Moral Philosophy at LUISS in Rome. He sits on the United Nations High-Level Advisory Body on Artificial Intelligence, has advised Pope Francis on AI and technology ethics, and is President of the Ethics Committee of the Observatory on Artificial Intelligence established under the EU AI Act.Few people move as fluently between moral philosophy and AI governance. The second speaker joining the event is Dr. Simon Longstaff. Simon Longstaff began his working life on Groote Eylandt in the Northern Territory of Australia. He is proud of his kinship ties to the Anindilyakwa people. After a period studying law in Sydney and teaching in Tasmania, he pursued postgraduate studies as a Member of Magdalene College, Cambridge. In 1991, Simon commenced his work as the first Executive Director of @The Ethics Centre, a position he holds to this day. Simon is also an Adjunct Professor of the Australian Graduate School of Management at UNSW, a Fellow of CPA Australia, the Royal Society of NSW and the Australian Risk Policy Institute. In his own words, Simon is “inspired by the opportunity to continue learning about our brilliant, troubling, contradictory, maddeningly beautiful form of being – simultaneously the most creative and destructive creature on earth; a source of wonder and dread.” Places will be limited. Register your interest to receive the full invitation and speaker announcements. This event will be co-hosted by Gradient Institute and the Consulate General of Italy in Sydney (Consolato Generale d'Italia Sydney) and the Embassy of Italy in Canberra (Ambasciata d'Italia Canberra)
